Control Panel Building and Design


Our electrical control panel building workshop covers the complete service from the design and specification of control panels and motor control centres through the building and installation process to the maintenance and repair of panels when in use.


SCL has been involved in the design and manufacture of electrical control panels for over 30 years, from small motor control panels to large complex panel suites incorporating drives, PLCs and other associated automation equipment.  The panel building and motor control design services can be split into two main areas:-



Systems design from concept

Working closely with the end user, we can design the entire drive and/or control scheme for the new process, drawing on our experience from a wide range of systems and industries we have been involved with.  By getting to understand exactly what is required, our panel building department is able to produce exactly the right control panel solution for the plant or process enabling the best possible result for the customer.  

We are able to offer the complete solution or carry out any particular stage in isolation from the original concept through the design, panel building, installation and commissioning phases of the project.

Modernisation and refurbishment

Where an electrical control panel arrangement is already in place and changes are sought we can assist in retrofitting new panels to existing machines.

Our wealth of experience together with support from some of the leading manufacturers in automation equipment has meant we have been able to support a range of customers from heavy industries such as the paper and metal forming industries to the smaller machine types such as food in making improvements in areas such as production efficiency, product quality, reduced waste and energy saving by retrofitting the latest drive systems to existing machines.

Eaton Smartwire-DT

Shellau Contracts have in recent years made a conscious decision to integrate Eaton Smartwire-DT within our designs and control panel systems.  


Eaton’s SmartWire-DT is the intelligent machine wiring solution that reduces panel and machine wiring complexity by consolidating complex circuit wiring into a single cable. When assembling control panels & machines, connecting components over SmartWire-DT is fast and simple both inside and outside the control cabinet. Once the control panel/machine is built, SmartWire-DT streamlines testing and reduces installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting to save time and money.


Smartwire-DT can be incorporated into a system either as a standalone Easy PLC system or via gateways. The true benefit of Smartwire-DT is the ability to integrate within any PLC system via gateways.

We have as a Company designed and installed systems integrating with the following:

  • Easy 802 PLC - direct smartwire-DT connection
